Despite common misconceptions elves are not an
aloof people who disdain non-elves as not being
persons, who have an abiding mutual hatred with
dwarves, who all make amazing magical and
artistic artifacts and who value trees above
life.
Elves do call themselves Tel?Quessir (the people)
and non-elves N?Tel?Quessir (not people) but
this is to signify the special bond elves have
with other elves ? they share a common
inheritance and many mental and physical
attributes non-elves do not have. It is true
elves do not make friends easily with those of
other races, but it is understandable that
those of the long lived avoid the pain of
watching the short lived grow old and die. The
only race the truly despise is the Orcs.
Elves are a long-lived race who take life at a slow
pace and are deeply concerned with beauty, and
the immaterial. They find it hard to relate to
the whole hearted enjoyment of sensual
pleasures found in the halflings, and the
strong drive to work found in the dwarves. They
relate better to gnomes with their love of
magic and illusions. Some elves view humans as
bigoted, greedy, land hungry beings who rush
about at a frenetic pace and destroy the land.
This is not surprising as it is an apt
description of many humans. However others
realize that with humans amazing reproductive
rate, their quick grasp of magic and their
ability to learn and adapt the future of Faerun
will be human.
